Mile 114 on the Great Allegheny Passage
Boasting a sheltered location in a scenic river valley, West Newton is a lovely Trail Town along the Great Allegheny Passage. Trailside businesses include a bed and breakfast, bike shop, canoe outfitter, and café with outdoor seating, as well as a new visitor center that is a replica of the former train station.
The traditional downtown is across the Youghiogheny River, with a town square planned at the foot of the landmark West Newton Bridge. This riverfront development project aims to connect trail users with the historic downtown.
Hidden treasures to discover in town are the Historic West Newton Cemetery near the trail, West Newton Pizza Shop, and a number of Victorian residences. Downtown West Newton is ripe for new business ventures.
