Earlier this fall, trail counts took place in several of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Towns. Counts included zip code collection to get a picture of where trail users where coming from.
The first count took place Friday August 21st from 4-6PM after a previously rainy day. Titusville, Oil City, and Franklin volunteers were able to track 135 trail users of which only 16 were repeats. Only Franklin collected zip codes on this count. 10 total unique zip codes were included from locals but also Akron,Ohio and Virginia.
The second count took place on Saturday September 26 from 10am-12pm. A gorgeous morning brought out over 311 trail users between Titusville and Emlenton. Only 27 people were counted as repeats. The majority of those near Titusville were walkers, but many through riders could be found in all of the communities. A total of 58 unique zip codes were collected. They included many from the Cleveland/Akron/Youngstown Ohio region, PA/NY borders, Pittsburgh and suburbs, Butler, New Castle, Meadville, as well as far south as North and South Carolina.
The experience and scenery of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail is bringing visitors near and far to explore the Trail Towns. Trail Town Program and partners plan to continue counts into 2016. THANK YOU to our volunteers in 2015!
